Control board fire
After 14 years of service, the control board caught fire and smoked the
entire house. The area of the relays were the most charged. Called Trane
to report the fire and all they had to say is that there had never been
a report of this happening before. Our furnace had been serviced each
year by the installer and was found to be okay. Trane offered no
assistance and did not want to investigate. Never asked for the control
board either. We had numerous service people in to quote a replacement
and none had ever seen this type of burning before. Our furnace was part
number TDD080r936a which was a 80,000 btu two stage downflow style. We
did not choose a Trane or any of its sub divisions for a replacement.
Thanks goodness all we had to recover from was smoke damage.

Review of an older furnace - Trane XL80
I am satisfied with the Trane XL80. The furnace was already in the basement when we bought the house in 2009. The furnace has done its job with a few interruptions since then. Once or twice, we had to call in a repairman to look at the furnace, because it wouldn't ignite. On a different occasion, we had to replace the mother board of the furnace, because somehow water had come into the furnace and shorted the circuit board. That was an expensive undertaking as it cost more than $600. Despite those few challenges, we've been satisfied with the furnace. I will likely replace the furnace with a smaller furnace as the current one is meant for a bigger house.

Bought xl80 in 2009 to replace a carrier unit that failed after 19 years
with no issues prior to that.
Heat exchanger on the new xl80 failed after 20 months.
Replaced with same model unit. Since then, mother board replaced, flow sensors replaced, igniter replaced (twice). This included 8 separate service calls, various calls between service company and Trane 'technical hot line'. All these issues within the last 4 months.
Unit failed again this morning. 7 flashes indicating another igniter. What a joke.
Trane as been very little help (tech 'hot line' is actually third-party - not Trane).
Never again. Trane is no longer what they once were - quality company with quality products. They are an absolute Trane wreck.

Trane makes this landlord very happy
Bought XL80 for my rentals here in Ma. I have 5 rentals and three needed new furnaces, replaced prior carrier untits that were 10 years old. The new furnaces have been installed for 3 tears now and have performed as promised. Very happy, no call backs from renters. Highly recommend, anything that makes my job as landlord easier and keeps renter happy and paying their rent is great.

Trane xl 80 mid efficiency, two stage. Researched the heck out of
furnaces and found Trane makes Sears house brand...so sounded great. One
week after installation, the mother board went down. No problem, part
but not service call covered. Cost :90 bucks. Ten months later, flame
sensor misbehaving; service call 90 bucks again. Few more months of
summer and the appliance works perfectly! Oh right, no need to turn on
cause its summer! Last year, first cold snap...furnace will not ignite
beyond initial stage one blow ( 3 minutes) so we call service tech for
yet another 90 bucks. April, some cheap made in Mexico wire snaps
costing me another 90 buck service call and 20 dollars in parts. Just
last night, return from movie to cold house...wife curses...oldest son
kicks furnace. I call Trane local rep...no response. I call all Trane
service reps...no answer. Inside temp is now 52 degrees; outside temp is
12 degrees. Not very pleased and would suggest Trane should be more
responsive to customer inquiries as all my calls have been met with
Nice work TRANE. I look forward to telling everyone I know what a poor product you make.

New Home: Purchased a Trane 100,000 btu 92% Two Stage furnace model
tux2c100a9482a, the humidity when it was turned on created a humidity
level of 27%(which started to pull all the wood appart). We added a top
of the line automatic humidifier that generates an average humidity of
34%. I have to run a portable unit to get the humidity to get the
humidty up. Still looking for the answere of why the humidity is low
after many calls to Andy's Statewide Installers.
The XL80 is available in different models which vary in efficiency and capacity.
