Overview of the GSZ13
The Goodman GSZ13 is a relatively inexpensive and inefficient heat pump, with a single compressor. It earns energy efficiency ratings of 13 SEER (cooling) and 7.8 HSPF (heating).
The heating and cooling capacity for this model both range from 18,000 to 60,000 BTU/h (i.e. from 1.5 to 5 tons). Sound output ranges from 71 to 76 dB.
This model uses R-410A refrigerant (a.k.a. Puron). It thus compares favorably to the GSH13 (a Goodman model with similar efficiency), which uses R-22 (a type of refrigerant known for damaging the Earth's ozone layer).
Goodman's manual for the GSZ13 provides detailed information about the unit's performance at different temperatures, so you can assess its likely operation in your climate.

"Do not depend on Goodman to honor the warranty"
The unit itself is okay but if something goes wrong do not depend on Goodman the live up to the paper they gave you about a 5 or 10 year warranty. I had our unit installed on may 31, 2013. installer/dealer said its really good--man. It has a 10 year warranty on all parts. Its what I have on my house, etc etc. I came home Saturday, July 22, 2017 it was 85 degrees and rising upstairs at 2:30 pm. No a/C. Checked everything, kids and wife screaming. Called some a/c people. It is July in Tennessee on a late hot hot Saturday. Everyone is overloaded. Found a guy who would come out and be here at 7:00 pm. He fixed it. A capacitor was bad. OK . Called Goodman Monday to get my money back for the capacitor. Oh no, our guy must come to your house, find the trouble remove the part, take it to our supplier get a new one, come back and put it in. But lady it's 95 degrees, it's Saturday, I gotta get it fixed. Thems the rules sorry. What if I take the bad part to your authorized supplier? Nope, thank ain't in the rules. Beware of Goodman.

If you live near salt water do not buy Goodman! Our heating and cooling company recommended Goodman to us 4 years ago and we installed 2 units. We are second row from the ocean (about 1/8 mile away from water). We get no direct spray and units are on the back of the house, elevated and protected. We just had to replace the line drier, it was completely rusted out and all the Freon leaked out. The second unit is almost as bad and the technician said it will have to also be replaced soon, total cost over $500! Our last units which were not Goodman lasted for 12 years, this tells me that Goodman uses inferior materials.

"Goodman Heat Pump"
One of the more inexpensive heat pumps that I have previously owned. I like how little electricity that it uses. You can tell that it is not the top of the line in heat pumps, but it works great for me. Never had to do any repairs on this. I would definitely consider buying another one like it, or just like it because this heat pump has served all of my needs very efficiently. I actually think that this is an excellent value for the price that I payed for this heat pump. Would recommend it for anyone who doesn't have wads of money to spend on it, and needs one.

Compressors don't last very long if it costs me $800.00 every one and a half to two years. Highest upkeep I know of.

I bought a new Goodman heat pump from *** ******* on June 28, 2010. The heat pump turned out to be a complete lemon, and I've put just about as much money into repairs in the past 5 years than I paid to begin with. I trusted the Goodman name, but my local A/C company refuses to honor the factory warranty. I'm going to try to reach Goodman directly, but if my local installer (*** ******* in Virginia Beach, Virginia) won't help, I have doubts that a big corporation will do anything.

"Fantastic Heat Pump"
After having my previous heat pump for 10 years, it unexpectedly failed us. It would only work less than half the time. We decided it was time to replace it with a brand new one. We were skeptical about ordering something this expensive online but after we did, we were never so happy. The customer service at Goodman was amazing. They walked us through what was going to happen, how it was going to be delivered, what we needed to inspect. It is an excellent product and it was delivered within a few days of our order. The price was awesome, we couldn't find it any better priced locally, it saved us about $400-$500 by ordering it online & it cost us only $100 for a professional to connect it all up. We have now had this current Goodman heat pump for about 2 years and it has been working flawlessly. Not a single problem since we've owned it. Should this one ever fail anytime in the future, which I don't expect to be anytime soon, I will definitely buy another Goodman. I would highly recommend Goodman to anyone.

"Thumbs Up to the Goodman GSZ130241"
I have owned the Goodman GSZ130241 heat pump for six months. So far I am completely satisfied with this heat pump. I have not had a single issue with this heat pump since it was installed in my home. The installation for the heat pump was quick and simple. I have noticed that this particular heat pump runs extremely quiet compared to the other ones I have had in the past. My home seems to heat much more rapidly after installing this new heat pump. It now only takes from five to ten minutes to reach the desired temperature throughout my entire home. This heat pump is a decent price, and it won't burn a hole in wallet. In fact, it has personally saved me money. I have seen a significant drop in the price of my electric bill after installing the Goodman GSZ13024. I would not hesitate recommending this heat pump to anyone who is in search of a new one for their own home. If you are on the market for a new heat pump do not hesitate to check out the Goodman GSZ130241. I'm sure this heat pump would not disappoint. I give the Goodman GSZ130241 five stars and a thumbs up.

"Good Heat Pump for mid sized homes"
I have been using this heat pump system for about a year now and it has been great for the most part. In the harshest part of the winter it struggled to keep up with the cold. However, it got the job done for the most part and I am happy with the purchase. I like how quiet the unit is, as opposed to some others I have had. I also like how efficient it is, as it helped reduce my energy bill. I would certainly recommend this heat pump to someone else. However, I would caution against using it for larger homes in colder environments. I would buy it again if I was in the same situation. The price is great!

"Goodman GSZ130241- a good, affordable heat pump that does a great job."
This review is about the Goodman GSZ130241 2 ton heat pump. It is a great heat pump for a great price. Under 1000 dollars and it really pumps some heat. I have owned mine for about 3 years now and have never had any major issues. It is very efficient and works very well. The Goodman GSZ130241 heats my home up very quickly in the winter which is great because my house is not insulated very well. There is not anything that I dislike about this, and I would say Goodman makes some very good quality products that perform very well. I would definitely buy another Goodman product and would recommend to all of my friends.

"Good quality, a little pricey though"
I truly believe this is an above average pump, I haven't had any complaints whatsoever with it. The only negative thing I can think of was the price, which I wasn't entirely satisfied with (I ended up purchasing this particular model because there was a retail center selling Goodman nearby, which reduced the cost of transport and installation marginally). I've had the GSZ130301 for about 10 months now. It runs relatively quiet (I attribute that to its having been brand new and well-maintained ever since). I don't see any spots of rust or chipping / fading paint (this is essential, since Colorado sees extremes of both temperature and weather events - as well as a heck of a lot of snow). Overall, I'd certainly buy it again, but only at a much reduced price. I figure I could have saved about $100 if I'd gone with another, equally reputable brand, but was stuck with this one due to my company's remote location.

"Feel the Burn....For a Few Minutes"
I currently am renting a home from my in-laws. The house has quite a few issues, but some are worse than others. One of the lesser issues is the heating system. The house has a central heat system made by Goodman. It has been in the house for a few years. It works OK, the ducts put out lukewarm air on most days. It has to feel pretty cool outside in order for it to feel like there is significant heat coming out. Upstairs, the air is just not warm. The unit might do better on a smaller home, even though the company said it should be fine on a 4-5 bedroom house. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend.

"Amazing heat pump for the price!"
I have owned this heat pump for about two years now. For the price there is absolutely nothing better that you can get. It has worked perfectly during this time, requiring no repairs and very little maintenance, giving me exactly what I need while not driving up energy costs to astronomical proportions. I like to keep my house nice and toasty during those cold winds in the South this winter, and this does it with absolutely no problems. When I got this unit, I was replacing an older unit that drove my bills up during the winter months. I saw a drastic increase in my bill, which will pay for the unit itself in a short amount of time for me. As long as this unit continues performing like this for a few years to come, I will definitely be purchasing another model from Goodman to replace this when its eventual time comes to an end.

"Very poor equipment"
I bought two units in September of 2010. Within three months the coil on the downstairs unit had a leak. Now, as of July of 2015, the upstairs unit had to have the same coil replaced. And within a week of that the downstairs unit now has a problem as well. Might be the coil again. That would be three coils in about five years. From what I have read on this sight this seems to be pretty standard and Goodman is doing nothing about improving the facilities that make their parts. I feel Goodman should reimburse us for at least half of the installation charges when the problem is a recurring one. They make rather crappy stuff and do not care that the repair places charge thousands of dollars for service. The parts are rather inexpensive so Goodman doesn't (apparently) mind replacing them. It is the service charges that bankrupt us.

Purchased a renovated foreclosed home with a brand new Goodman heat pump and air handler. I learned the unit was installed in October 2014 and I purchased my home in March 2015. During that time the house was unoccupied because it was for sale. Goodman will extend the warranty from 5 years to 10 if you register within 60 days installation. Even though my situation is identical to a new home sale Goodman refused my extension two times. Their customer service is pathetically poor.

"I am not very satisfied with my Goodman"
I have had the heat pump for going on 3 years now. What I like about it is that it really doesn't take up very much room at all. Another thing that I do like about it is that it is not noisy. I was really worried it would be loud when I got it but I haven't had any problems with it being loud and irritating me. What I don't like about it is that it seems like it is almost cheaply made. I was really upset because when I got it I was told it came with a warranty and it broke a couple months ago so I called the company to have them come repair it. They said I didn't have a warranty and I had to pay a lot to get it fixed. I wish I had gotten a more heavy duty heat pump because then I feel like I wouldn't have had so many issues. I would not recommend it to a friend or buy it again if I had the option.

"Works like a charm!"
Well we've had this heating pump for about 5 years now, and my only complaint is I wish we had gotten this sooner. Goodman has always made great products but this one is just exceptional. We live down in Virginia and the winters here can rival those of Westeros during the long night, I tell you; our last heater broke and we only had it for 2 years! I won't mention the name but I will say this: I've never had a more high quality heating pump than this Goodman. We can use it for our entire home, without a problem now for many years. Actually our friend recommended it to us after their heater died as well that winter. We also know of many senior living homes that use this brand (Goodman) for heating and they work just as well as ours on the entire building! If you're looking for a great heating pump, look no further - this is it!

"The Scoop on Goodman"
I own a Goodman (3 Ton 13 SEER) Heat Pump Air Conditioner System. I have owned this heat pump for about 4 years now. Some of the things that I like best about it are how energy efficient they seem to be. I can run it quite frequently during the summer, every day most of the day - and my electric bill isn't too high. I like the way the air smells and feels coming out of it. I had two instances in which I had to have technical help on my Goodman. The first time, the issue was covered under warranty. The second time, it cost me about $100. I'd say that the cost of upkeep with this product is very low. I would definitely buy the same brand again for a heat pump ac system. This is the best system I've ever owned. I am pleased to have purchased this product.

Ten years ago I bought a new house with two (upstairs and downstairs) 3 ton units. Since then, I have had two inside coils replaced, and a new outside unit (compressor) upstairs at 8 years. Now, 20 months later, the upstairs unit has failed again. Check your warranty, no labor. Luckily, I can replace capacitors myself and have had to replace them every three years. Sure, Goodman will give you the part, but you need a certified installer to replace it ($75 labor). It costs $75 for a $15 part. Same with the compressor. Sure they give you the compressor under warranty, but it costs a thousand to install and you buy the Freon. If they don't replace the whole unit, the poor installer has to spend extra time removing and replacing the old compressor, which is labor, and therefore on your ticket. I have been an Aerospace Engineer for the last 35 years and do not understand why it is so difficult to build more reliable units. As for the warranty, parts are nothing to Goodman, and you eat all labor cost. The bad thing is that most installers are so embarrassed by the poor quality of the units, that they eat the labor cost as well. Goodman ends up screwing over the consumer, installer, and distributor. Why not just build better units?

Hello. I bought online, afraid about bad reviews, but so far it works perfectly. Good heat, icy cold cooling and really quiet. Made 80% of the installation by myself then called a technician for the final step. Saved about $2000. Be careful about HVAC contractor's scam. They only care about their business. Warranty....it's another scam. 10 years and no labor covered. Contractors know about it, so a capacitor, as an example, costs up to $20 and they charge you $200. So far, I'm very satisfied. Don't blame the Goodman name, they use the same parts as other brands. Pay attention to quality installation. Bigger company, bigger scam.

I purchased my home brand new (new construction) with a Goodman heat pump/air handler. It's now 3 1/2 years later and the heat pump quit working a few weeks ago. My wife and I have our 3rd girl due soon so I attempted to figure the problem out with no luck so I broke down and called a local HVAC company to come see what is going on and how much to fix. The technician put refrigerant in (due to the problem seeming to be that it had zero refrigerant) and after filling it with a small amount, he noticed that there was a leak. He explained that he was going to use a meter and see if he could locate the leak; however, if it was the inside coil needing to be replaced then it would cost around $1500 to repair, and if it turned out to be the outside coil then it was a $1600 dollar repair. He found leaks in both inside and outside coils and said it would be wise to look into having the entire system replaced and to look around for prices on systems, installation, etc., and it would be around $6000 for a new system. Well, this was all I needed one month before my third daughter is due to come. To the people at Goodman, I do appreciate your system lasting me and my family less than four years. I also hope your families have good things like this happen to you.

"Great for the price, fantastic value"
Overall this is a fantastic pump. My last one was okay, it had some issues but I replaced it and got this. I have had it about a full year going now. I like pretty much everything about it, from the quality to how well it works, and the price was great. I did dislike the setup of it compared to the other brands but it is one minor gripe. I would still recommend it compared to others, as I have had no reason to replace it because it runs and works flawlessly. It is one of the better products I have ever had.

Only had the unit for 2 and 1/2 years. The coil already went out. The company that put it in states that Goodman isn't paying for the coil; the company that put it in is having to pay for the part and shipping. It will cost me about $200.00 for labor and $60.00 a pound for the coolant to put back in there. This is not a good company. Buyer beware!

"Don't buy a Wade Jurney home that has a Goodman heating pump."
If you purchase a Wade Jurney home, then your house comes with a Goodman heating pump that is horrible and barely works. I was in my brand new home for barely a year and the Goodman heat pump went out. If I don't have an issue during the winter then it's summer and vice versa. I contacted Wade Jurney and they sent someone during the warranty period. What I can't understand is why Wade Jurney continues to purchase Goodman heat pumping pumps knowing they have all these complaints. Every single homeowner in my new community has had issues with their Goodman heating pumps.

I've had my unit for 3 years, and it stopped working. The repairman said there was a leak somewhere and the unit lost all the Freon so it doesn't work. It will cost me over $600 to have this repair fixed. I would not recommend this unit to anyone.

The unit was installed in November, 2013. There have been 4 service calls since, 2 for the system not defrosting. Both times the sensor board had gone bad. The tech told me that was a problem with this unit and that he hated working on Goodman/Amana junk. 1 thermostat gone bad and 1 for a broken LV wire in the unit. All 4 times the Freon was checked and found to be low also. I suspect a leak. The tech just placed some dye in the unit to locate it. I wouldn't recommend this to someone I disliked.

Unit was installed on 5/2012. On 11/2014, the unit was not working when it was on electric heat. The installer came and found out the side coil or condensor leaked Freon. There was poor design at the pipe to the condensor. Had to order parts, and it took more than two weeks until the parts got here. I noted the electric bill getting higher. He put it in; what a job to put in. The part was covered under warranty, but not labor or Freon? The unit is 18 months old. Now I got a bill for $625.00 before Christmas. Was that very nice? They said I was supposed to buy a labor warranty. I did not, for some reason; I may have lost the papers or just forgot. I put this in at the age of 65; I'm now 67 years old. This tells me that they do not trust their own product.

I had a new 5 ton split system installed on 8/14. It worked great the first couple of months for cooling. When I switched over to heat, the unit became noisier with a lot of line-set vibration that resonates into the house. My installer has tried a number of different things in an effort to minimize the vibration. I have also had three other HVAC techs from three different companies look at the unit. They all agreed that there does appear to be a problem and all said that they would be happy to look into it in greater detail, at my expense of course. None, regardless of the potential cost, could guarantee a fix. I contacted Goodman and they said that I had bought one of their basic low end units and if I had a problem with it I need to work it out with the installer. My installer said that he is at a loss as to what else to try and that he is getting little or no support from Goodman.

"Fantastic - I love my Goodman heat pump."
I just want to say I love my Goodman heat pump. I opted to purchase a Goodman unit because the price was more affordable, despite all the bad reviews. I was told that Goodman has come a long way in the last several years, and that I wouldn't be dissatisfied. I purchased the extended warranty that is also offered with Goodman equipment - 10 years parts & labor - just in case. I have had my unit for 4 years now, haven't had the first problem. So, don't believe all the bad stuff written here, you will pay much less and receive high quality with Goodman.

"2nd coil condenser failure within 3 years"
I purchased my house new in 2010 with a Goodman unit installed as new. In February 2012, the coil condenser failed and I had to replace the unit. It was replaced with another new Goodman unit, and September 2014 that unit failed for the same reason. I will never buy another Goodman unit. When I called and complained, they told me the unit was still under warranty and would cost $800-$1100 to repair. The warranty covers parts only, not the labor. When I called the a/c company, they told me that Goodman units have been failing since there were changes in government regulation. With all the reviews I've seen, we should all get together and sue them and demand a recall.

"Installed correctly, bad unit"
I was a fool. I bought a Goodman online GSZ and ARUF and had the best company in my area install, inside and out. I stood there all day and they did a beautiful job. Pulled a beautiful vacuum, had a great split as explained the return air minus the supply air. Worked great, a bit noisy but no real problems. Year 2. Had a leak in the outdoor coil. Goodman would not back the warranty because it was bought online. Had to pay the installer to remove and ship the coil back to Florida and pay for shipping back to me.Then had to pay the original installer to replace the coil. Year 2, again. The inside coil developed a leak. Same process, except the online seller had gone out of business. Then the reversing valve. Year 3. The compressor started making loud noises. Told it was on borrowed time. Year 5. It went. I had the original company remove the system, paid their mark-up and now have a system that is quiet and guaranteed. I found out too late about the class action lawsuit about these coils.

Have had problems since 6 mos after installation in 04-12. Have paid for Freon to be added 3 times, the condensor to be changed, a nitrogen test for leaks, and an outragous electric bill from running off of emergency heat strips because who new a new system would go bad that quickly. I have called Goodman 2 times and emailed once, also had heat and air guys contact to get a Goodman technician to come out(I was told my customer service that they could do that) however at this time they do not believe that I have had enough things go wrong to warrant that, really!! This heat pump was installed when my new house was built in May 2010. In January 2011 it required piston replacement when it stopped heating the home. Then in June 2012 it required a replacement of the indoor evaporator coil when it stopped producing a/C. Then in June 2014 it required replacement of the outdoor evaporator coil when it stopped producing a/C. So in the first 4 years, it has required 3 major repairs. Sure, Goodman provides a 5-year warranty on all parts. But my most recent repair still cost over $1,000 for the labor and refrigerant. (The refrigerant is not included in the warranty, and that alone cost more than $600 this time.) I complained to Goodman, who told me I should have paid for the additional labor warranty as well. I suppose if you insist on buying a Goodman heat pump, then I would recommend the full labor warranty. But any person with half a brain should simply choose a heat pump from a company that is not widely recognized as the worst in the business (seriously, check any 3rd party review site). I will never be a Goodman customer again.

I am very disappointed with my Goodman heating and air system. After being in my newly built house for two years, the heating system went out. Parts were cover under warranty but labor was not. I requested assistance from the company and was turned down. Now not even a year later the air conditioner is not working. I'm not surprise because this house was built by a substandard contractor (Reggie Spain) who probably used substandard and used appliances.

"Horrible product, company is worse"
Purchased a brand new home that would be considered better than average for quality and price in 2012. First winter no problems, 1/2 through 2nd winter condenser coil had to be replaced. Coil was under warranty, but not labor and puron. After a year and 8 months in my new home, I never expected a failure. The cost to repair was over $800, and then additional $350 for the electric bill when I didn't realize there was a problem. Goodman refused to cover any of the extra cost. Told me I should have purchased additional warranty. I was not made aware of one since the builder purchased and not sure I would have since most reputable companies would not have a failure this soon. Working in manufacturing company myself, our company would have provided some type of reimbursement when a failure occurs this quickly. Obviously, this company has them all the time. No wonder they can't do more.

Buyer beware!!! Have been without heat since December 4 2013. It is now Jan 7 2014. This Goodman piece of junk leaked out everything including oil. Will have to purchase a new heat pump (not a Goodman) after all the money we have lost on repairing this thing! To make matters worse our installer company, in Waynesboro, VA linked to the name "Richie" would not help us or even return our phone calls or repair it. Buyer beware!!! Have been without heat since December 4 2013. It is now Jan 7 2014. This Goodman piece of junk leaked out everything including oil. Will have to purchase a new heatpump (not a Goodman) after all the money we have lost on repairing this thing! To make matters worse our installer company, in Waynesboro, VA linked to the name "Richie" would not help us or even return our phone calls or repair it. When I finally got a chance to talk to the owner he actually resorted to yelling at me over the phone for disturbing him on a Saturday during sub zero weather. Really bad experience with Goodman heat pump and the installer company.

"Broke and Can't Get it Fixed!"
Condenser coil had catastrophic leak 3 1/2 years after installation. Although it is still under warranty, the local service agent cannot get the needed coil. I have been simmering in Texas heat for the last 3 weeks (August 19, 2013 thru today September 8). The temperature has ranged from 98 to 104 each and everyday. Still... no coil! Amana (Goodman) takes no blame for the unavailability of needed part, they blame everyone else. No one will take responsibility at this point, blame each other and still do not know where a part is. However, when I pressured the local Amana repair service agent (same people that installed it), they said this was not unusual of Amana. Today, September 8, 2013, I am dumbfounded by everyone involved and believe that there is a wider conspiracy going on from manufacturer to the installers/service people with regard to Amana's/Goodman's quality issues. I can taste it and feel it. Unfortunately, I am one among many that have nowhere to turn other than replacing the unit at my expense. Please, do your research before buying Amana/Goodman products!

"Unit Freezes Up Repeatedly"
Unit freezes up repeatedly and repairman has been called out 3 times in one year and he cannot find the problem. I have to let the thaw for almost a day, to get it to work properly again. All good for maybe a week, then all to do over again and in this severe heat and medical problems, that is a big problem. I think Goodman should replace the unit. Says it has a 10 year warranty and it is only a little over a year old. Labor is only covered for one year. Any suggestions?

"2 New AC Units Not Working Properly"
2 new AC units, 3 ton and 2-1/2 ton units. Constantly low on freon. We have had 5 service calls in less than 1 month. They have added freon. The units continue to freeze up and leak water on my floors. Today they said they solved the problems. In the middle of the day, temperature will not get below 79 degrees. When it gets dark, it cools. The unit's housing in the attic is ice cold, but the rooms are 79 degrees. Bad installation. Wish Goodman would reinstall and check all connections. We are very angry and upset. 7 months old and only 2 months use of AC units.

"Condenser Unit Received with Defective Compressor"
I just received a Goodman heat pump system and the compressor is bad. They are replacing the compressor; but, I have to pay to have it installed. The labor cost is $600.00. Pretty poor for a new out of the box system (doa). My suggestion would be try a different brand before Goodman. It certainly can't be any worse. :-)

"I install Goodman through my company Heatman.com"
Last year we installed 320 units. We had 2 call backs. 1 a mouse got into the fan cage and the other a f=condenser fan motor burned out. This year I expect to install over 350 Goodman replacement systems. I install them correctly measure amp draw superheat airflow and duct temps and have no problems with them. I believe most of the problems I hear about are from folks either not changing the linset of pulling a proper vacumn.

"Condenser fan motor went out"
Condenser fan motor went out. The contractor that installed it 5 months ago will not show up when he says then goes days without answering his phone Goodman needs to do a better job with their dealer network. Amana/Goodmans customer relations department is a joke. I spoke to 3 different reps all with the same answer no one would even let me speak to a supervisor. The motor itself is made in China and well... the quality just is not there. The unit has a 10year parts only warranty which is a joke because the labor to install most parts generally exceeds the value of the part. 5 months, come on Amana, this is pathetic. You should pay a reputable dealer to install this part and get some quality control. I have 3 other brands with no problems whatsoever.

"I install Goodman through my company Heatman.com"
So it was natural that I would install 1 in my own home. The heat pump works great. We control it with a Honeywell 8000 with outdoor sensor. My total electric bill is $75-80 a month and my house is very comfortable. If I did not believe in them I would not have put it in my house. No problems at all. We install them right then test them for air flow, heat rise, etc. Last year we installed over 300 replacement sytems with 1 callback. With a 10 year warranty on every part I do not see why anyone would want to pay more for any other product. I also believe that the"secret" to a great system is in the install.

"Reversing valve & abysmal cust. service"
Installed a brand new goodman system 8/30/10, complete with furnace, coil, heatpump, line set, thermostat, ect. No old components used. Heat pump reversing valve was not functioning properly on install. Installer tapped on valve and it started to function. Started malfunctioning again. I went to goodman website and got a number for a certified installer/repairman. He showed up and after looking it over determined it was reversing valve, but that he wasn't an authorized with goodman. He was several years ago but stopped carrying them do to reliability issues. Called Goodman directly and was informed that they are not going to cover any labor, just the part. Even though it appeared to not be working on install. In short- -Their website isn't up to date with current installers. -Their "customer service" number given out on website is crap. I had to call a wholesaler to actually get a decent number. -When I did finally get in touch with a human they told me that it wasn't their problem and by the way "since you didn't register it within 60 days of install your "warranty" is only good for 5 years". Whatever, I am going to get a 2lb hammer and destroy the piece of junk and buy something else. By the time I pay somebody to come out and jack arround with it I will have about as much cash in it as another one. I'm hacked off.

"Review of Goodman Heat Pump"
I have only owned this heat pump for approximately 8 months (it was purchased and installed October 2010). It functions well, and worked properly through the winter, even in Seattle, where it became very cold. The only problem we've had is the capacity, which is not very great. Meaning, sometimes we find that it does not work after extended use, but this has only happened on a couple of occasion. That being said, it has never had to be repaired. I would recommend this brand and model to a friend as I found it affordable and it works properly. This is my first home owning experience, and we purchased this heat pump as the one that had been there before was far too old to function. However this new Goodman one works great. That being said, I would be open to trying out other heat pumps to compare the experience.

"Goodman Heat Pump"
I have had the unit for 3 years. The first feature of the unit that I liked, and was the main reason I bought it was that it has an environmentally friendly refrigerant. Which means I won't be harming the environment and I would be able to stay comfortable in all seasons. I like that it was inexpensive, but because it was inexpensive that means it was downright cheap. There were a lot of problems keeping the unit to both cool and heat properly. I constantly had to have maintenance work on it, and it would constantly break down. I spent more in maintenance than I did on the pump, so next time I am buying a better one so I save money on forcing it to work. They just could not make it work. One time it would be the coils, other time the valves. I would NOT buy this brand again, nor would I recommend it to a friend. I wish I had done more research before buying this unit.

I have striffed to be nice and think of a good word to say, "junk" plus the warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. Have several yearly maintenance calls and now they say the compressor is shorted. Ten year waranty is we will replace it but you need a entire new system for the compressor failed and contaminated the system.

"Heat Pump Excellent Option for Apartment Living"
I've had my heat pump for just about a year now and am very satisfied with it. At first, I wasn't aware that the apartment unit I rent used a heat pump. When I initially found out I was unsure as to whether it would adequately heat the apartment. I have since found out that it has no problem heating my 580 square foot apartment, and it does it very inexpensively. I very much like the efficiency of the heat pump. I can't say that there's anything I really dislike about it‚Ä"as it has met all of my expectations. I have never had to repair either the pump itself or the thermostat interface. I would recommend this product to anyone in similar circumstances. It is ideal for a small apartment in climates that do not sustain long periods of intense cold. Reliability for me has been excellent and the cost reduction is fantastic.

"Best Heat Pump Ever Bought"
After my last unit failed, I purchased a new heat pump about two months ago. The heat pump that I purchased at Home Depot's website was a Goodman GSZ130241. One favorable feature of this particular unit is that it carries an Energy Star qualification which means it meets all the highest and current energy standards. Apart from that, another feature I like is that this unit is chlorine-free which makes it environmentally friendly. This product is ideal for individuals are interested in superior comfort, quiet operation and environmental friendliness. Even more impressive is the lack of maintenance required to keep this product running. No repair or replacement has been necessary since its acquisition. Since then, I have recommended this exact product to a few friends who are in the market for a similar product. In conclusion, I can't imagine buying any other product that meets this unit's capabilities in terms of price and functionality.
Other GSZ13 Reviews
Reviewers on hvac-talk.com are dismissive of the GSZ13. They donít like Goodman generally, and consider the GSZ13 to be overly inefficient and error-prone. They also suggest that the initially low cost will be overwhelmed by necessary maintenance. In general, they prefer Trane and other brands. (They remind consumers that Goodman and Amana are now the same company.)
Users at gardenweb.com seem to hold similar opinions, suggesting that consumers could pay a little more for their heat pump and get substantially better results.
Folks at doityourself.com are harsh in their reviews of the GSZ13 and anyone willing to install it, suggesting that these units are more trouble than they were worth. These reviewers generally prefer Lennox and Trane.
Goodman GSZ13 Model Numbers
The GSZ13 is available in different models which vary in efficiency and capacity.
|Model Number||SEER / HSPF||BTUs per Hour|
|GSZ130241A*||13 / 8||0|
|GSZ130301A*||13 / 8||0|
|GSZ130361A*||13 / 8||0|
|GSZ130601A*||13 / 8.4||0|
This model has a 10-year limited parts warranty. It's only good for the original owner and at the original location. It does not cover damage due to bad installation, human intervention or natural disasters. If a part is broken, you can send it back to Goodman and they'll send you a new one (although you will pay for shipping).
